OLATHE, Kan .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Garmin® International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the largest1 and the world’s most innovative marine electronics maker, today announced that its Panoramic view camera system, the marine industry’s first intelligent camera system to provide a 360-degree live bird’s-eye view of a ship, was selected as the category winner of the DAME Design Awards 2021. Surround View received the most top honors in the “Marine Electronics and Marine Software” category at this year’s METSTRADE, the world’s largest trade fair for marine equipment, materials and systems, held November 16-18 in Amsterdam.

The DAME Awards 2021 competition attracted 103 entries from 25 countries. From there, a jury of industry and design experts and media representatives selected 53 ‘nominated’ products before awarding top honors by category to products that represented excellence in all aspects. from product design, ease of use, functionality and aesthetics to environment and innovation. .

“Surround View raises the bar for marine camera technology, and we are honored to have been selected as recipients of the DAME Design Award category,” said Dan Bartel, vice president of global consumer sales for Garmin. “By combining exceptional design with innovative technology, Surround View offers unprecedented situational awareness and convenience on the water. This award is a testament to the tireless efforts of our team to make boating more enjoyable for everyone. ”

A breakthrough in video guidance for boating and boating, the Panoramic Camera System incorporates six cameras mounted through the hull that capture a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the vessel during maneuvering at low speed, such as mooring in a tight spot or navigating crowded marinas. Designed for a wide range of boats, Surround View cameras have a low profile for mounting through the factory installed OEM hull that combines functionality with streamlined aesthetics.

Designed to help take the guesswork out of docking, Surround View maximizes visibility and minimizes blind spots by displaying a stitched image with 360-degree real-time video views of all around the vessel directly on Garmin chartplotters compatible or the multifunction bar (MFD) displays. Using Surround View’s visual bumper and augmented reality distance markers functions, captains can quickly and easily maneuver the vessel with better situational awareness and to help avoid collisions.

Surround View is now available on new builds from Garmin’s boatbuilding partners. A compatible Garmin chartplotter or MFD, including the GPSMAP® 8400/8600, GPSMAP 7×3 / 9×3 / 12×3 series or Volvo Penta glass cockpit system, is required.
