So it’s the OVB0B? onmivision sensor??

If so, that’s good news, I sincerely think onmivision’s flagship sensors are better than Sony’s

“It will be a 1/1.5 inch imager with 194 MP resolution and OIS.”
Possible fake news. A 1/1.5″ type sensor with 194 megapixels would require a pixel size that does not currently exist on the market.

Great, although they could have ditched the unnecessary telephoto lens and put in a bigger sensor thanks to the space saved, so it could have passed the 200Mp limit!

I’ve been using low end motorola phones for a few years because I can’t be bothered with a $1200 phone that doesn’t have a camera at least as good as the original g7x… the ends averages last about a year before they start having problems. including overheating issues. this camera will probably not be more spectacular than the best high-end phones currently available in recent years. just a number. until they are able to properly optimize the mp with the lenz and ai.. and have solid stabilization there is no point in spending over 1000. smarter to just grab a cheap midrange and a dji pouch that always ends up costing half the price. the only reason to spend more is if you play competitive type mobile games and need the best chip

PCM, 11 hours agoThese sensors are not for smartphones. Samsung was pretty clear. 300MP, 600MP are for… moreSamsung does not provide security cameras or cars. Mobile only.

In addition, the cameras used for these purposes are low resolution to avoid rolling shutters, too large images and are smaller (less heat produced).

PCM, 11 hours ago.48 is just too small. And will have too many inconveniences. No…it won’t… moreExactly .48 is far too small to be useful. I was referring to Samsung’s 0.48 lens, not Motorola’s. People don’t understand how stupid 0.48um sensors are to cram 200mp or something.

It’s sad how they fall in love: more MP = better photo when there are a lot of factors that come into play.

SuuperBaka, 11 hours agoI get it, but if their goal is to get smaller, it only causes problems later… more.48 is just too small. And will have too many inconveniences.
Nah… It’s not gonna happen. Even if Motorola asks Samsung to do it, they have to revamp their assembly line. It’s a billion dollar cost.
Even ignoring all this… If it happens. The image will be shittier than a 108mp 1/1.52″ or even 12mp 1/2.8 sensor

Samsung was pretty clear. 300MP, 600MP are for different purposes. If you didn’t know, the sensor industry doesn’t just revolve around the smartphone industry. So the 300MP sensor is very unlikely to be smaller than 1″

SuuperBaka, 11 hours agoI get it, but if their goal is to get smaller, it only causes problems later… moreThe idea is to have the highest number of neighboring pixels sharing the same color filter so that they all operate at different exposures to increase DR.
But so far it fails on small sensors as phones still have to use many stacked frames when the technology should suffice while using a single frame.

PCM, 11 hours agoAt 0.48 micron the sensor should be around 1/1.35-1.4″… So 1/1.5″ is just an error… moreThey are working to shrink to this size, it is not said that Samsung is already there.

How about 300 and 600MP for a 1″ or smaller sensor?

I would love to see Motorola rise in the market. it’s actually surprising what you get in mid-priced phones.

Moto image processing is bad, so who cares about MP and sensor.
4500mah is low for a hot running 8gen1 chip that burns the battery.

Hopefully this device will be proof that even in 2022 megapixel count doesn’t mean that much. But maybe I’m wrong and it will be spectacular, although I doubt it.

SA466, 16 hours agoI was excited for this as I thought it would use the Samsung Isocell HP1, but the 1/1.5″ sensor… moreThat’s true, but this phone probably won’t have high-end flagship prices. Probably similar in price to something like the Xiaomi 12 or Realme gt2 pro but with slightly better hardware specs. More like an entry-level flagship. I think they know few people will choose them if they go the very high end route, so they are currently focused on offering the cheapest flagships.
