On Thursday, February 24, 2022, Buckhannon-Upshur Camera Club will welcome Amanda Haddox and Ron Gaskins of Mountaineer Photo Excursions as special speakers for their regular monthly meeting. Meetings are held at the Upshur County Senior Center at 28 N. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon at 6:30 p.m.

Gaskins and Haddox are based in Ripley and Charleston, W.Va., and teach workshops and photography classes. Since 2012, they have run over 40 workshops in the eastern United States, including West Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Georgia, Maine and others.

In September 2021, they traveled to southern Alaska, about 200 miles west of Anchorage. Aiming to return for a photo workshop in Alaska, Gaskins and Haddox spent a week with a local outfitter. Traveling each day, they photographed magnificent snow-capped mountains, colorful autumn tundra and, of course, grizzly bears – taken from the air in bush planes and on the ground with their experienced guides.

During their presentation at BUCC, they’ll share some of their photography and stories from their trip to “The Last Frontier,” as well as some “do’s and don’ts” for such an extreme adventure. Haddox and Gaskins will also have information on their full schedule of photo workshops in 2022, including trips to North Carolina and Maine.
