OPPO will hold its annual INNO DAY event during China Week. The company will showcase state-of-the-art smartphone hardware, electronics and design products, and other accomplishments/milestones the company is proud of. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t get any teases as the company has teased a self-developed pop-up camera system that could end up debuting on OPPO’s next flagship.

OPPO’s global Twitter account has shared a teaser video of an internal pop-up camera system. This video gives us a preview of this upcoming camera technology. The video also shows an unspecified OPPO smartphone with a retractable camera structure that physically allows the lens to swing in and out of the camera.

The video also implies that OPPO is adapting the retractable camera without ruling out water resistance. In addition to this, the phone also appears to have a drop detection mechanism which should protect the camera module from accidental drops while in use.

Finally, the video also reveals the camera in question. It turns out that OPPO uses a 1/1.58-inch sensor, 50mm equivalent focal length, as well as an f/2.4 aperture. The company didn’t share any other technical details of its pop-up camera. The camera system could allow the company to offer true optical zoom from the main camera without using a secondary telephoto lens.

For those interested, we expect details to start rolling out during OPPO’s INNO DAY 2021 event, which will take place on December 14, 2021.
