The PPP has asked the Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, to investigate and “bring to light the facts” around the incident involving a camera-equipped drone hitting PPP leader Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari during his party’s anti campaign. – government march in Khanewal earlier this month.

The incident happened on March 4, when Aseefa was standing on top of a truck alongside his brother, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

Video footage broadcast on television had shown the drone moving directly towards Aseefa, which tipped back and ducked in an attempt to get out of the way of the aircraft.

The drone had hit her near the right eye. She initially received first aid at the scene and was later transferred to Mukhtar A. Sheikh Hospital in Multan, where she received stitches for what Bilawal described at the time as “deep lacerations “.

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bokhari confirmed Dawn.com today that he had written a letter to DG ISI, in which he asked him to investigate the matter further.

The letter, a copy of which is available with Dawn.comrecalled the incident, saying that a “drone camera from a local television network suspiciously flew into Chairman[PPP}BBZandtargetedhissisterinjuringhimseverely'[PPP}ChairmanBBZ’sandtargetedhissisterinjuringhersubstantially'[PPP}BBZetaciblésasœurlablessantgravement”[PPP}ChairmanBBZ’sandtargetedhissisterinjuringhersubstantially”

At the time of the incident, Aseefa’s sister Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari also expressed suspicion that the incident was the result of “intentional aggression”. Bilawal had also hinted when addressing participants of the march after the incident that the event may have been a deliberate act.

He said the device belonged to a private news channel that also targeted the PPP march and party policies.

Later, Samaa TV News director Farhan Mallick had tweeted that the channel’s drone operator had lost control of the drone’s camera during the PPP march and as a result the device had hit Aseefa. He called the incident “unfortunate” and an “accident”.

Bokhari mentioned in the letter to DG ISI that the matter was reported to Khanewal Police Station and asked the country’s spymaster to further investigate the incident.

“Given your organization’s considerable investigative expertise, we ask that you review this matter and bring the facts to light,” the letter read.

“The PPP has taken this attack on Ms. Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari very seriously and looks to your organization to investigate the matter thoroughly and impartially,” he added.
